Your Name Matters

Olayemi is a compound name containing two words Ola and Yemi. I have always been called Yemi; since when I have known myself.

I recently was asked if my name is Yemi or Yemmy and I replied Yemi. Coincidentally; or should i say Godincidentally; I read in my  bible study book that I’m currently studying that names matter. My response to that is of course!

Coming from Nigeria I know the power of names. You can almost never have a name that does not have a meaning or associated with something or someone.

The Background Gist

My beautiful mother tells me of when she was pregnant with me as her fourth girl (an unfortunate event back in the day; to only give birth to girls). She had lots of open doors; business opportunities that turned into money making sources; happy times produced by having more than enough. All these signs she took as a message from God that the child she was carrying will be a source of joy and is coming to deliver the family from hardship; and take the family to their next level of  wealth.

Yep, that’s how I got my name.

From what I have been told and my understanding of the Yoruba language; the literal meaning of Olayemi is “I am worthy of Wealth”.

On this very day that I was asked about my name; I decided to look up the meaning of my name on the internet. The internet did not disappoint.

Here is what the Urban Dictionary has to say

Olayemi

A Nigerian name from the southwestern region, particularly the Yorubas. Could be for both male and female . It means wealth fits me.

The females are especially beautiful, hardworking, very  tolerant and quite prayerful. They make the best friends and are very supportive . They are generally quiet but when comfortable with you, they can lose their home training.

Their partners are especially blessed to have them.

Get you an Olayemi in your life

Olayemi is a beautiful personin and out

Wow!!!

My reaction after reading the Urban description of Olayemi. I love this new meaning I just discovered about my name and I own it a 110% (doing my happy dance).

Life and All it brings

The question I ask myself is “ Do I really answer to my name or has my name answered to me?”

What I mean by that is am I wealthy?

Is my bank account loaded and does money look good on me?

Do I have money? (We all know it’s all about the Benjamins...lol)

Seriously, friends my parents wish for me is that I prosper and be wealthy. Every time my name is called ; it should be a reminder of Who I AM literally.

Beyond what my parents wish for me; Apostle John reminds us of the mind of Christ towards us in 3 John

'My dear friend, I know your soul is doing fine, and I pray that you are doing well in every way and that your health is good. ' 3 John 1:2 https://my.bible.com/bible/105/3JN.1.2
